Brief Summary Valimai Movie 2022:
Whenever we see Valimai film of a cop in Tamil cinema, there is a sense of superheroism attached to the main cop. They would be portrayed as people who have the power to do anything and everything, and would also fit into the commercial cop film genre. The biggest risk that director H Vinoth takes here is that he has created a socially responsible cop who fully understands the socio-economic reasons behind the crimes. And that risk pays off big time.

Vinoth’s clarity and sense of direction are immense, and this can be seen in the screenplay. He takes his time to establish the characters and how the crimes happen before introducing Ajith Kumar. There are very few scenes that are staged flat.
Valimai movie 2022 Story:
A series of chain snatching incidents, followed by a few murders, take place in Chennai and ACP Arjun (Ajith Kumar) is brought on board to solve the case. Shaitan Ghulam, a technical gang full of unemployed youth led by Kartikeya, is responsible for committing these crimes. Arjuna has to face many obstacles in capturing the slaves of the devils and his head. What was the end result of Arjuna’s mission, what is Valimai about.
Right from the start, Valimai tells you that it is going to be a racy action-packed thriller and the moments are systematically built towards a suitable mid-point. The Pre-Interval Highway Bike Chase keeps you on the edge of your seat and is effectively staged and executed. H Vinoth, the director has certainly stepped up the game with Valimai stating that he is a capable filmmaker to handle large-scale films. The dialogues are well written and many lines are well understood.
The film has two long segments that stand out – the bike chase sequence in the pre-interval and the bus-highway stunt sequence that follows immediately after the midpoint. Both these stunt sequences are enough to make the fans happy and both the sequences are commendable.
However, in terms of writing and research, Valimai can be called Vinoth’s less effective film, given his previous work. A film like Valimai needed more effectively written sequences and those expecting a strong content driven flick from Vinoth might be disappointed. With some solid twists and gameplay between protagonist and antagonist, Valimai could have been a compelling watch. But, Vinoth relies on sentiment and stunts to elevate his script.
What goes against Valimai is its prophecy and the general chain of events in the screenplay, especially in the second half. Family feelings are ineffective for various reasons and it is mostly the action sequences that interest you.
Stunts aside, Valimai doesn’t keep you busy. The second half is largely predictable, following a tentative path of hero versus villain, making the impact less felt. The screenplay is inconsistent in many places and Vinoth does not exploit the full potential the script has to offer since the cat and mouse game falls flat. The ‘degradation to the rank of inspector’ angle seemed unnecessary, more than an unnecessary deviation.
Unfortunately, Valimai largely lacks logic and is this due to the fact that Valimai is a star vehicle? The villainous character’s writing is suggestive and appears to be a replica of many other stylized villains that Tamil cinema has seen in the past.
CAST:
Ajith is brilliant in the role of ACP Arjun as he manages to put on an impressive performance with the audience. His stellar screen presence is effectively elevated by scintillating stunts and the star actor sets the bar high with regards to his stunts. We know that Ajith loves bikes and Valimai will be nothing short of a big treat for his fans in this regard.
Kartikeya, who made his debut in Tamil cinema with Valimai, has put in his sincere efforts and his dedication is much seen. He looks gentle and stylish, but with regards to his performance, he is not a strong threat to the protagonist. Huma Qureshi doesn’t play Ajith’s love interest and instead comes across as a trusted confidante and she does her job neatly. Raj Ayyappa, as Ajith’s younger brother, justifies his character arc, with his emotional performances.
Technical:
Nirav Shah’s cinematography is superb and his extensive effort in bringing Vinoth’s vision to life is appreciated. The gorgeous shots give you an immersive visual experience and the ace lensman once again proves his mettle. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs don’t play a big part but BGM, along with Ghibran and he holds the film together with his pulsating score. Words cannot be found for the excellent work of Dilip Subbarayan and his team.
